The "barrio gótico" or gothic quarter of Barcelona is the histórical center of the city. The touristic tour of the gothic quarter is the one that makes us discover the history, the artistic past, and all the evolution of Barcelona as city. The Barrio Gótico is the oldest part of the Barcelona. The cardus and the decumanus did cross at the roman forum, just where we now have the square of Saint James. A lso, it is divided in different quarters that still keep their personality.The Call or jewish quarter, situated on the south of the cathedral of Barcelona, Santos Justo y Pastor, Santa Maria del Pi, where we fond the church of the pine tree, the Cathedral, Santa Ana, La Merced, where we find the head quarters of the mercedaires, and the Palau. The structure of the quarter did remain untouched, till the 19th century, period that did bring enourmus transformations to the structure and morfology of the quarter,like for example, the transformation of the cementeris into public squares, or the demolishement of the old medieval walls. We still keep part of those walls in Barcelona. The visit of the barrio gótico takes minimum one hour,and maximum,well, this depends on your legs. Usualy, in the tour of the gothic quarter we also visit the ramblas street, that are at only five minutes walking from the cathedral of Barcelona.
